The NOZ™ is a member of the Perfect Fluid Guide family of products. It is a coolant nozzle designed to improve finishes by providing coolant from from the sides of the grinding site.
We always wanted some coolant flushing action directed from the side of the wheel. It seemed that the wheel was always in the way of the standard nozzle which is generally to the right side of the wheel housing. This traditional coolant nozzle configuration can allow for “recutting” of the swarf, especially when traversing right to left, and thus potentially creating surfaces which are non-optimal.
The multiple streams of coolant from the NOZ are focused on a point. The distance from the nozzle to the focal point is called the “focal length”. In the NOZ 2.2, for example, it is about 2 inches, which is designed for 7- to 8-inch wheel diameters. The NOZ 2.2 is about 2-inches wide, too, thus the nomenclature “2.2”. It is compatible with 1/4-inch Loc-Line®, Jeton and similar systems.
In the NOZ 3.3, it is about 3 inches, which is designed for 10- to 14-inch wheel diameters. The NOZ 3.3 is about 3-inches wide, too, thus the nomenclature “3.3”. It is compatible with 1/4-inch Loc-Line®, Jeton and similar systems. The NOZ 3.3L is similar, except it is designed to be compatible with 1/2-inch Loc-Line®, Jeton and similar systems.
For small machines with small pumps, we recommend the HIGH VELOCITY version (11 holes, 0.054-inch diameter). If your machine has a beefy coolant pump, or you have lots of swarf to move, choose the MEDIUM VELOCITY (15 or 19 holes, 0.054-inch diameter). Larger machines with big coolant pumps can make the LOW VELOCITY (15 or 19 holes, 0.078-inch diameter) version work well. Even better, order a set of three, and experiment. They won’t break the bank.
We use the NOZ 2.2 HIGH VELOCITY version in the production of PFG Stones®, with our valve at full open, and our mist collector and larger splash shield really earn their keep!
How to identify 1/4” versus 1/2” LOC line. Make sure you order the correct NOZ!
The solution we originally envisioned is to build a manifold and use multiple coolant pipes and nozzles. We were heading in this direction… and procrastinated long enough to have the resin-printing epiphany which led to the development of the NOZ. Never underestimate the power of procrastination. The NOZ solution is a simple replacement of a standard nozzle, so it’s fast, reasonably priced and effective.
The Perfect Fluid Guide products were originally developed to improve the production of our world-famous PFG Stones®. And they do so beautifully. We use them exclusively, now, of course.
This device was unapologetically designed by an antenna engineer. It is very analogous to a linear antenna array for feeding a parabolic dish antenna. What makes it interesting is that it would be very expensive to mold. The liquid channels are all rotated to point at the focus. Were this to be molded, the mold would probably need to have all the pins retractable. But, modern resin printing processes allow this to be manufactured without the limitations of molding, nor the expense of machining, and at a reasonable price point.
Another thing that makes this product possible is the very high-quality engineering resin material which is very close to polypropylene in its properties. The resin seems impervious to coolants which are oil-water emulsions.
We have other designs in the works for this product line, to accommodate different size wheels and work areas. If you think you have an application that requires a special NOZ, please contact us.

If your NOZ gets loose with time, it’s possible that it or the ball it is attached to is wearing, the tolerances are not in your favor, or your coolant is affecting it.
We now ship every NOZ with a NOZ-Clamp. Yep, for zero additional cost.
Recently, I got a message from a good customer. His NOZ was getting loose. I suggested that this comes with age and suggested some food supplements. He slapped me. Then, I understood. I checked my NOZ, and yeah, it seemed a tad looser than I’d like. It bothered me, and I did not sleep well that night.
So, I designed the NOZ Clamp.
And it totally fixed the problem!
The NOZ Clamp squeezes the base of the attachment to the coolant line slightly, and it tightens right up. It comes with a specially designed screw designed for plastics and will self-tap nicely.
We designed it in both 1/4-inch and 1/2-inch sizes.
Note that the 1/4-inch version is symmetrical, you can install it without the need to consider flow direction.
The 1/2-inch size DOES require you to install it such that the “V” mark points in the direction of flow, or toward your NOZ.
We like it, and think you will, too.
The NOZ Clamp is available at no additional cost with all NOZ orders placed after April 16, 2025.
For all NOZ customers who ordered prior to that date, the NOZ Clamp is available for free. Just let us know you want it. Yep, really.
Use of the NOZ Clamp is optional, but recommended. Whether you use it or not, is at your sole discretion. If you are happy without it, we won’t take it personally. It’s no skin off our… NOZ.
